SOUNDARYA LAHARI

Soundarya Lahari, besides being a tribute to Jaganmatha, is the king of mantras that grants all wishes akin to the Kamadhenu, as many authorities opine. Commentaries on it, numbering more than 35, are a testimony to the importance placed on this Stotra by experts and upasakas of yore. Every sloka in this invokes divine potency to alleviate fever, threat of enemies, poverty, and displeasure of superiors individually. At the same time, it is a principal means for the upasaka to pave his way to moksha. Parayana of Soundarya Lahari brings ones mind under control and soothes it, thus rendering it fit for Jnana nishTha. The Jaganmatha, being the Shakti behind all deities including Hari Hara Brahma - Indra, Ganesha and Skanda, Her worship is the worship of all deities simultaneously. Such worship fulfills needs of the personal welfare of the individual as well as national unity.

O! Bhagavati! Only if Parama Siva is enjoined with You, the Sakti, He is empowered to create. The same Lord is indeed powerless even to move sans Thy company. O! In such a context, how can one (I) be capable of saluting or praising you without the meritorious effects of (my) yester deeds?
